A role undefined

What is fate, really? Is it already spelled out by unseen styli, marked in mud or stone and we no more than passengers in the lanes they created? Or do we bushwhack our way through existence, shaping our path through the terrain we’re given? Does anything lie between? As we lay fallow, darkness and stillness give us room ponder where we’ll go next—and by whose determination?
